My kids have been asking me for a dog for a while, but currently I still feel it would equate to another newborn so I've held off for the time being. But given that friends around us have all sorts of dogs from teacup chihuahuas (yeah, really there is such a thing - looks like an Ewok on all fours), to spoodles, to cockapoos to good old-fashioned collies, I've taken to "borrowing a dog" for a day. Usually the owners are more than happy to hand their doggies over, and the kids absolutely LOVE it. All you need is:
- some-else's dog
- a ball thrower and
- a plastic bag in case it does a poo.

Top tip: Always get your kid to pick up the poo. It's the only way to see how much they really want that dog.
